The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science initiative stands as a beacon of recognition for outstanding female scientists in Australia and New Zealand. For their prestigious 2023 ceremony in Sydney, we were entrusted with transforming the venue into an experience that would properly honor these remarkable women and their contributions to science.
As with many PR-led events, the project had an extremely tight turnaround, with only a week for the entire design production. Given the importance of this fellowship and its honorees, it was crucial to create an immersive experience that effectively highlighted each candidate’s accomplishments while maintaining the integrity of the given brand elements.
We were provided with an existing logo and colour palette, which served as the foundation for the event’s visual identity. With this in place, we focused on extending the brand across various touchpoints to ensure a seamless, elegant, and meaningful experience.
A key feature of the event was an accordion-style gallery wall that provided an interactive way for guests to explore the achievements of the 5 honorees. This installation was a focal point, encouraging attendees to engage with the stories behind each scientist’s work. The modular, 3D design allowed for a dynamic and adaptable display that fit within the venue while maintaining an air of sophistication
From entrance signage to interior décor, we ensured that every visual aspect of the event was aligned with the UNESCO L’Oréal brand. Large-scale banners, directional signage, and digital displays carried the brand’s signature colors and typography, reinforcing the event’s identity throughout the space.
The dining experience was another opportunity to bring the brand to life. Custom-designed menus featured refined typography and subtle branding elements, while table styling was carefully curated to reflect a modern, professional, warm ambiance. Attention was paid to even the smallest details, from place cards to centerpiece accents, ensuring a polished and cohesive presentation.
Despite the short turnaround, we delivered a seamlessly executed event environment that exceeded client expectations. The final experience struck the perfect balance—celebrating scientific achievement within an immersive brand world that felt prestigious and accessible.
Through thoughtful design decisions and attention to detail, we created an immersive experience that reinforced L’Oreal and UNESCO’s commitment to advancing women in scientific disciplines while providing a beautiful and inspiring setting for this prestigious celebration.
